THE World University Rankings 2027: Australia's 37 Ranked Universities at a Glance
Australia has 37 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, according to the national study body Study Australia. That is 88% of the country's universities. Six of them sit in the global top 100, and ten reach the top 200.
If you are comparing Australian universities, the sections below answer the questions that come up first: who made the top 100, where the other top-200 names landed, and which institutions moved up.
How many Australian universities are in the global top 100?
Six Australian universities rank inside the world's top 100, and each has a confirmed position in the 2027 table:
| University | THE 2027 world rank |
|---|---|
| University of Melbourne | 34 |
| The University of Sydney | 51 |
| Monash University | 61 |
| The University of Queensland | 73 |
| UNSW Sydney | 75 |
| Australian National University | 77 |
Which Australian universities reached the top 200?
Four more Australian universities join them in the top 200, bringing the national total to ten:
| University | THE 2027 world rank |
|---|---|
| Adelaide University | 141 |
| University of Technology Sydney | 152 |
| Macquarie University | 161 |
| The University of Western Australia | 173 |
Places outside the top 200, which include RMIT University, are not listed here. The full table, with every Australian result, is published on the Times Higher Education website.
Which universities improved or set records?
Study Australia reported that seven Australian universities improved their position from last year. Two universities also recorded their best-ever result in the 2027 rankings:
- Macquarie University
- RMIT University
How should you use these rankings?
The rankings are a starting point, not a final answer. Study Australia advises weighing them alongside the course content, the location, the entry requirements, the learning experience and the student support on offer. The right choice is the university and course that match your own goals rather than the highest number on a table.
